TAP™ is comprised of individually licensed software modules, which may be purchased in almost any combination depending on user requirements for area coverage studies, path profiles, interference studies, presentation of results, and budget. Work product is organized into Projects that may contain Path studies, Coverage studies, and Intermodulation studies. Additionally, coverage study results may be displayed and printed as maps with extensive individualized styling by using TAP Mapper. The functionality available within TAP and TAP Mapper is dependent upon the licensed modules.
General Use Utilities
- Basic Mapping – Catalogs and retrieves topographical data (required for all TAP users)
- RF Facilities – Saves fixed and mobile facility descriptions in a database for reuse
- 3D Display – Exports 3D coverage maps and path studies to Google Earth, Maptitude, ArcGis, and other mapping software
- Shadow Mapping – Quickly identifies areas with line-of-sight and Fresnel zone clearance
- Stacked Antenna – Adds multiple vertically-stacked horizontal plane antenna patterns
- Land Use – Imports USGS NLCD land cover files and MODIS Global Land Cover files and then uses them in the analysis
Propagation Modules
- Longley-Rice (aka Irregular Terrain Model (ITM)) – Most popular and flexible propagation model for frequencies from 30 MHz to 30 GHz
- Bullington – Knife-edge diffraction propagation model, recommended in rugged terrain and for air-to-ground studies
- Okumura – Well-known propagation model for VHF and UHF land mobile radios
- Rounded Obstacle – Propagation model for diffraction over individual isolated obstacles, which is good for buildings and other discrete interferers
- Broadcast (FCC Part 73) – VHF and UHF propagation for TV and FM broadcasting
- Carey (FCC Part 22) – Generates a family of curves defined by the FCC for land mobile radio propagation
- Hata-Davidson – Propagation in 30 – 1500 MHz using Height Above Average Terrain (HAAT)
- Egli – Simple RF propagation model for gently rolling terrain
Path Analysis Modules
- VHF/UHF Reliability – Estimates link reliability in UHF and VHF bands
- Microwave Reliability – Estimates microwave link reliability
- Antenna Elevation – Calculates required antenna height to meet specified link criteria
- Reflection Analysis – Locates potentially problematic reflection points along a path
- AutoPath – Automates setting up path specifications, reducing manual data entry
Area Coverage Modules
- Pattern Distortion – Models the horizontal plane pattern distortion of an omni-directional antenna mounted on the side of a metal tower
- Aggregate Coverage – Uses multiple area coverage studies to calculate a resultant composite area coverage
- AutoCoverage – Automates setting up coverage studies, reducing manual data entry
Interference Study Modules
- Intermodulation Products – Computes intermodulation products as a function of frequencies and other transmitter and receiver specifications entered manually or imported from a database
- Adjacent Channel Interference – Computes the interfering effects between stations according to user-selected receiver rejection specifications
